Vardenafil is used to treat erectile dysfunction (impotence) in men. It is a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor. Impotence is a common side effect of vardenafil. It results from the inhibition of PDE5, a enzyme that breaks down vardenafil. This allows the penis to become erect, allowing the medication to be taken. It works by relaxing the muscles in the penis and allowing for increased blood flow. This erection works for at least 20 minutes and can last for up to 5 hours.
